Rumors are circulating that Marvel Studios is working on a fifth Thor film, though details remain scarce.
According to insider Daniel Richtman via the Thor Updates X account, Thor 5 is in early development. However, Marvel is said to be searching for a new director to take over the franchise, meaning Taika Waititi likely won’t return after directing Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Marvel has not yet commented on the veracity of these reports. For now, a fifth Thor movie seems to be just a possibility.
Chris Hemsworth, who has portrayed Thor throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, previously expressed interest in playing the God of Thunder again if the story warranted it. He hinted Thor 5 could potentially close out the character’s journey.
Hemsworth did joke he’d like to exit the role before people ask him to leave. So while he seems game to keep playing Thor, he doesn’t want to overstay his welcome.
Thor: Love and Thunder received a somewhat divided response from fans. Hemsworth himself wondered if the film got too silly and comedic compared to previous Thor movies.
For now, Marvel has not announced any concrete plans for Thor 5 or revealed when the God of Thunder could return to theaters. But if these early rumors pan out, fans may see Hemsworth back in action soon enough.
